US climate pact pullout could add 0.3 degrees of warming

With DONALD TRUMP announcing Thursday that the USA will no longer be a part of the 195-nation climate-change alliance, we asked six environmentalists and climatologists with C-U ties: On a 1-5 scale, how significant is this news? Jerry Brown (D) said on a press call following Trump's announcement. In 2015, 195 countries, including the United States, adopted the Paris agreement.

During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly questioned the warnings of climate change and announced the possible departure from the Paris Agreement.

The decision sparked reaction from around the world and locally.

Trump said the United States would stop payments to the U.N. Green Climate Fund, in which rich countries committed billions of dollars to help developing countries deal with floods, droughts and other impacts from climate change.

"The Paris agreement is a cornerstone of cooperation among the nations of this world".

Unlike Trump, who played a master of business on TV while bankrupting his casinos and stiffing suppliers in real life, Musk is a real business genius who understands the future parameters of economic success.

China has emerged as Europe's unlikely partner in this and other areas - underlining Trump's isolation on many issues. Solar farms in Nevada, wind power in California and Elon Musk on a quest to make renewables even more practical for all.

Kerry slammed the move as hearkening natural disasters of apocalyptic proportions, stating the decision is "one of the most self-destructive moves I've ever seen by any president in my lifetime".

After three decades of rapid economic growth, China is assuming a mantle of leadership in the Asia-Pacific and beyond.

"The decision of the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement is very regrettable, and I'm expressing myself in a very reserved way when I say that", she said, adding that the deal was needed to protect the environment. That is hilariously ironic.

And although China remains heavily reliant on coal and pollution is a persistent problem for its 1.3 billion citizens, the country's communist rulers say they're determined to institute fundamental change. There will be no new deal for Trump, the boastful dealmaker, to make.

The US is the second largest contributor to Carbon dioxide in the world, beaten only by China.

And in her first visit with Trump in Washington, German Chancellor Angela Merkel gamely tried to shake Trump's hand during a photo opportunity, offering an optimistic assessment of the meeting despite the president's persistent criticisms of her country. May noted that Japan and Canada - fellow members of the G-7 group of rich industrialized nations - also were not signatories, but like Britain remain committed to the Paris agreement.

Under Trump, the United States can no longer be counted on to back up free societies when they are threatened by aggressive autocrats like Vladimir Putin. It's unclear how their submission to the United Nations would work because there is no formal process for entities that are not countries to join the deal, the report said.

"Britain could be leading the way on tackling climate change, and building an economy fit for the future".

I was amused, for example, that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo chose to highlight his support for the Paris Agreement by lighting up the new Kosciuszko Bridge in green. "American leadership was so important to this".

"I've always said it's much, much better to talk to one another and not about one another, and I think our conversation proved this", she said afterward.
