Australia gears up for State of Origin series

Five reasons why Queensland will win the State of Origin

Only one New South Wales player has played more than 20 Origin matches and that's Jarryd Hayne.

The series shifts to ANZ Stadium in the three weeks with the Blues looking to claim their first series win since 2014 and just their second since 2006.

NSW coach Laurie Daley hasn't shirked from stating publicly that a large factor in his decision to select Hayne was his reputation to deliver on league's biggest stage.

When Dylan came through the Aspley Devils juniors Murray was still heavily involved at the club and said the similarities in the way he and his father approached the game were obvious from day one.

Daley refused to embrace his side's favouritism, saying Queensland thrived when their backs were against the wall.

Subscribing to the winners are grinners theory: Corey Parker of the Maroons and Cameron Smith (centre) celebrate Queensland's success at the last State of Origin outing on July 13, 2016.

A bullocking Jack Bird set up James Tedesco's try a minute later.

What changes would you like to see from the Maroons before game two?

Lanai's brother, Tony Dawson, was one of the stars of Chatham High School's University Shield winning teams in 1980/81 and represented NSW Combined High Schools.

"They are at their unsafe, desperate best when they hit adversity".

"It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make that happen but that's not insurmountable and I think that's the way the sport's coverage is heading".

But like I say "should" - and as I have learnt with great regularity in the past should is a very bad word.

Queensland also lost Milford after he suffered concussion in the 50th minute.

"The best thing we can have Boyd Cordner do is play well and play to his ability and if he does that, that'll be good enough".

Without having to face his Queensland nemesis Johnathan Thurston for the first time, the Chooks' halfback scored what proved to be a pivotal try shortly before half-time to put his side up 12-4.

Fifita's try from a Justin O'Neill fumble, further pushed NSW ahead.

Since the introduction of the three game format in 1982, the team that has won the opener has gone on to win the series 26 times out of 35 - including seven in the past eight.

Lock Josh McGuire (119m), backrower Josh Papalii (109m) and Napa were the only Maroons to hit triple figures.

Rugby League's State of Origin has once again swept all before it, recording another dominant victory in the ratings battle.

Leading 6-4 the end of tight first half, NSW scored right on the bell.

"You just want them to referee the same as they do in the NRL".

"I know they're going to put him under pressure and that's great but I've got no doubt that Milf will handle that pressure and then come back with a little bit more".

Mitchell Pearce has returned to Origin in the best way possible for a Blues player - by scoring a stunning try on halftime in Maroons territory. One of his barging runs led to the first try.

"I'm pretty laid back, I wasn't really thinking about it", Hayne said.

"If you look at the teams on paper, they've got some big bodies there, so we need to slow them down somehow".

That kind of manic support is hard to suppress and rubs off on the players making the ones in blue fear for their lives and the ones in the other colour grow another six inches.
