Speaking at the dialogue, Asia's premier security forum, Mattis said the United States remained fully engaged with its partners.
In reference to Pyongyang's continued development of nuclear weapons and missiles, Mattis said in a speech at the annual Asia Security Summit that North Korea poses the "most urgent and risky threat to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific".
The spokesperson also said that the USA is "sadly mistaken" if it thinks that such missile interception system can prevent nuclear strikes by the Strategic Force of the KPA.

The analyst highlights the timing of Pyongyang's latest missile tests, saying those launches coincided with the joint military drills between the US and South Korea. Australian Defence Minister Marise Payne said it is encouraging that China has condemned recent actions by North Korea, but added that it has the power to do much more.
On Friday, the UNSC unanimously adopted Resolution 2356 to punish the North's series of ballistic missiles launches with strengthened sanctions.
In a sign of the U.S. commitment to the region, Mattis said that soon about 60 percent of overseas tactical aviation assets would be assigned to the region and he would work with the U.S. Congress on an Asia-Pacific stability initiative.
