Conservatives lead, but Labour gains big in British election, exit polls show

Exit poll could mean we'll have another general election this year, Ed Balls warns

Exit poll shows the Conservatives could face hung parliament – but can we trust it?

Mrs. May wants to remain in office for the next five years, but most analysts agree that the Conservative establishment will terminate her premiership when the time is right and they will select another candidate to lead them into the next general election - Judy.

Rather than resign, May quickly grabbed the lifeline of an alliance with the DUP, which won 10 seats.

The critical damage Theresa May wreaked on her chances of winning the election during a disastrous campaign has been laid bare in a poll published by a senior Conservative donor.

"Now, of course, if she's [May] got to be constantly making deals throughout this parliament, or indeed if she falls and there's a lot of negotiations or a lot of discussion as to whether she'll be leading this Conservative minority government".

"The country needs a period of stability, and whatever the results are the Conservative Party will ensure we fulfill our duty in ensuring that stability", she said. A "hung parliament" means that no party has an outright majority.

"Honestly, it feels nearly like she is nearly not aware of what has happened in the last 24 hours", Conservative lawmaker Heidi Allen told LBC radio. A thumping Conservative majority, she said, would "strengthen" her hand as she begins the process of negotiating the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union.

British Prime Minister Theresa May says she will take time to "reflect" on how to move forward after a surprise snap election result left the Conservative Party without a majority. "Well the mandate she's got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence".

MALCOLM BRABANT: But May's opponents aren't the only ones questioning her role.

Mrs May had unexpectedly called the snap election seven weeks ago, even though no vote was due until 2020.

The people of Britain demurred.

"The young have a bad deal", said Ben Page, chief executive of the pollster Ipsos MORI. "It appears clear they were determined this time to make a difference and vote". While he was demonized by conservative newspapers, on Facebook Corbyn was trending. She ignored younger people, who preferred to stay in the European Union previous year and now prefer the Labour Party to the Tories by a huge margin, 63 percent to 27 percent.

The Prime Minister was criticized for making a number of U-turns on social welfare and she came under fire for a controversial proposal on who should pay for the cost of care for the elderly, a policy that became known as the "dementia tax".

National security was also a major issue of the election campaign following recent and deadly terror attacks in the country. "If the government puts a Queen's Speech or a budget in front of us, we will judge it on whether or not we think it is good for the country - and if it isn't then we will not support it".

She told BBC Radio Wales: "We're still saying quite clearly that we would be ready to take over if Theresa May cannot cobble something together, and we're very doubtful that she can".

The charities minister had held his Reading East seat since 2005, before being defeated by Labour's Matt Rodda, who gained a majority of 3,749 on Thursday.
