Kyle Busch takes Pocono 400 pole; Darrell Wallace Jr. a hit with fans

Driver Kyle Busch rubs his head before practice for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series Pocono 400 auto race Friday

No. 21 Ryan Blaney holds off No. 4 Kevin Harvick to win the Axalta 400 at Pocono Raceway. With drivers like Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and technically Joey Logano yet to get a playoff eligible victory, those Playoff spots are looking to be hard to come by.

Martin Truex Jr. will have some work ahead of him if he wants to get another Monster Energy Cup win Sunday at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.

The 2012 NASCAR champion, who finished fifth, was all fired up about the opportunity.

Team Penske's Brad Keselowski won the XFINITY race, and it was Blaney's job to interview him, which he did. He certainly has the energy and enthusiasm to do it.

Ryan Blaney was splashed with beer, accepted some handshakes and even gave a fist bump in a raucous victory lane celebration. That should be a ton of fun.

"Maybe we should turn the radio off more often", Blaney said.

If there was someone he had to lose to, though, Harvick didn't mind it being the 23-year-old Blaney, who notched his first career Cup victory.

Team owner Richard Petty, who drove the 43, counseled Wallace in the garage and said it was a series of events that put him in the seat.

"I was saying we should just unplug my microphone more so I'm not complaining as much throughout the race", Blaney said jokingly.

Through 13 races last season, JGR drivers won seven times. I think there was also a reason not to with going to Pocono and Michigan, Sonoma and then Daytona. I think the added strategy that will come with stage racing and the potential for a fuel mileage finish makes this the safest, smartest cash strategy. He was 10th in the second round and seventh in the final round at 177.557 miles per hour. "He was fast all day, and you've just got to not mess up, hit your marks and take air away". He was representing venerable Wood Brothers Racing, which earned its 99th Series victory, and became another of the sport's young guns to get a win this season joining

Jimmie Johnson, last week's victor at Dover, qualified 19th in the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet. It was Johnson's 83rd Cup victory, tying him with Cale Yarborough for sixth on the all-time win list in the series.

Jamie McMurray was also unable to finish the race after his auto caught on fire and he was forced to evacuate it near the infield. Chip Ganassi Racing's Jamie McMurray also saw his vehicle turn into a barbecue. The last restart played out right into our hands.

"We never could stop like we needed to all weekend, so you just had to be really careful with the brakes", Harvick said.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s winless season stretched into Pocono when he was forced out of the race because of mechanical issues. "It's just that last stage that has alluded us", Wilson said.

The race is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday on FS1. "I'll find some skill sets and talk to some fellow competitors and see how I can improve myself". He said the problem in the No. 88 Chevrolet was shifting issues; he tried to go from third to fourth gear but the vehicle went to second.

The 23-year-old driver had some issues early in the race - he was too fast on pit road and almost missed his pit stall because he looked for the number he used in his second-tier Xfinity Series team.

So far, Wallace has enjoyed a fairly acceptable weekend.

This 2.5-mile track in the Pocono Mountains features three unique turns.
