Deputy AG Rosenstein: Special counsel will have 'full independence' for Russian Federation probe

US President Donald Trump is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified officials.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", Corallo said in an email to BuzzFeed News.

The interviews suggest that Mueller, an ex-FBI chief himself, sees the 'he said, he said, ' now going on between Comey and Trump to be a bigger deal than just that, one of the Post's sources said.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, "Chris speaks for himself". "I think the way the investigation is shaping up, he's out to get the president". I think it's pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently.

He is scheduled to testify before two congressional hearings on Tuesday and is likely to face even more pointed questions about the Russian Federation probe and the independence of the Justice Department in light of Ruddy's comments. "I will defend the integrity of that investigation".

"Let Robert Mueller do his job", Ryan said.

The president's personal friend, Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy said late Monday that Trump was considering terminating Mueller.

"He did not hire a single Republican in the first wave", Gingrich said.

The speaker also spoke of his confidence in Mueller despite some criticism from other within his party.

Comey responded to the President's mention of the Russian Federation investigation. Asked to respond, Spicer said he called "and asked him to clarify that his statement was not based on any meetings or conversations with the president".

The special counsel does not operate under the purview of the FBI, but took over the investigation previously led by the agency.

Some have compared Trump's firing of then-FBI Director James Comey in May to the storied "Saturday Night massacre" that occurred during Richard Nixon's presidency.

Significantly, Preet Bharara, the India-born former top U.S. federal prosecutor, earlier this week had said that there was enough evidence to begin an obstruction of justice case against Mr. Trump over his alleged interference in the Russian Federation probe.

"Don't you think it is unethical for him to become the investigator against the President after having that private conversation?"

Should Trump want to go around the department, the president would need to repeal the regulations enacted in 1999 that protect the special counsel from being summarily fired. An order from the president would not necessarily qualify, he said. He later noted that it was up to Mueller to determine whether the issue might be part of his investigation, adding he thought Mueller "ought to review that".
